What free email verification checks
Free email verification asks the receiving server whether a mailbox exists. The check does not send a message, and the person is not notified. Valid means the server accepted the recipient. Invalid means it refused. Unknown means it did not give a clean answer.
A lot of free email verifier pages never open that connection. They check that the text has an @ and a domain. [email protected] passes even when nobody created that inbox. A file cleaned that way still bounces. The formula and the 2% line are on Email bounce rate.
The version that can clean a list is a free trial. You create an account, you get a fixed number of credits, and one credit checks one address. That count is the free product. Cleaning a large file takes a paid plan.
Free email verifier for one address
One Gmail address does not need an account. The free Gmail checker runs the same SMTP check on @gmail.com and @googlemail.com. The limit is 10 checks an hour, and there is no CSV. Yahoo, Outlook, AOL, Zoho, and company domains are outside that page.
Use it when you have a single consumer address and you want a yes or no. A list, or a mix of providers, is the bulk trial below. Check if a Gmail address is real before you spend a credit on a row you could have tested in the browser.
Free bulk email verifier trials
A free bulk email verifier is a CSV upload paid for with trial credits. The allowances below are what each vendor publishes, checked in October 2026, next to the 100K price and coverage from our test. Scoring is on How we test. Confirm the signup screen. Trials change.
| Tool | Free credits | Card | 100K on our test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wontbounce | 100 a month. The balance returns to 100. Unused credits do not stack. | No | $99. Full list. About 7 seconds. |
| ZeroBounce | 100 a month on a business or premium domain. Unused free credits do not roll over. | No | $449. Full list. Under 30 seconds. Scoring suite around the verifier. |
| Emailable | 250 once. No ongoing free plan. | No | $357 a month. Skips Yahoo and AOL (92.9%). Under 10 seconds. |
| Debounce | 100 at signup. The pricing page does not describe a monthly refill. A catch-all check is 10 credits. | No | $124.20. Full list. About 5 minutes. Files capped at 200K. |
| Clearout | 100 credits to evaluate the product before you buy. | Not stated | $360. Full list after an iCloud retry. About 45 seconds. Finder plus verifier. |
Free-credit figures were checked in October 2026 against ZeroBounce's developer pages, Debounce pricing, and Clearout's pricing FAQ. Emailable's 250 credits are on Emailable pricing.
A CSV you will send
Wontbounce is 100 verifications a month, no card, and the trial is the same bulk check as the paid product. The balance comes back to 100. It does not grow if you skip a month.
A signup form
Emailable's 250 is the larger one-time grant, and the FAQ says no card. The bulk export on our list left Yahoo and AOL unchecked. Keep it when the test is a form API and the file is mostly corporate domains.
A suite, if you have a company domain
ZeroBounce refills 100 validations a month when the account uses a business or premium domain, and the current pages say no card. Check that the signup email qualifies before you count on the credits. The paid 100K price on our comparison is $449, because scoring and append sit around the verifier.
A one-time look at a CSV
Debounce includes 100 credits and does not ask for a card. Standard validation is 1 credit. Catch-all validation is 10, so those 100 credits are 10 catch-all checks. The full list took about five minutes.
A finder in the same login
Clearout gives 100 credits so you can evaluate the product before you pay. The pricing FAQ does not say whether a card is required. Stay if you use the finder. The verifier alone is the cheaper row in the table.
MillionVerifier's list pages advertise 100 free credits and no card. The help center describes a one-time trial instead: 500 credits for a business email, or credits for connecting an email tool. On our list it is $149 for 100K and it misses AOL. The write-up is on EmailListVerify alternatives.
What 100 free credits cover
100 free credits check 100 addresses. The upload has to fit the balance you have. A file of 2,000 is refused while the account has 100 left. Cut a sample and upload that file.
Build the sample from the list you mean to send. Include Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, and a few company domains. A sample made only of Gmail looks clean and hides the rows that bounce. One Gmail address can be checked with no account on the Gmail checker, so the credits can go to the harder providers. The addresses we score every tool against are on How we test.
Remove invalid rows before the file reaches the sending tool. Treat an unknown row as unresolved. Some company servers accept every address, then drop the message or bounce it later. The bands for that refusal rate are on Email bounce rate. Authentication, complaints, and the rest of the send are in email deliverability best practices.
The free plan refills to 100 verifications a month. No card is required to start. When the sample matches the file, paid plans start at 25,000 credits for $39 a month. 100,000 is $99. Cancelling a paid plan returns the account to the free 100, and unused paid credits are forfeited.
